Mission of the Graduate Program

The graduate program in civil and environmental engineering aims to provide world-class graduate education and research opportunities that enhance the economic and social well being of the citizens of Illinois, the nation and the world.  Our mission will be accomplished by 1) recruiting, enrolling and graduating masters level engineers with strong engineering, mathematical and science backgrounds who can adapt to interdisciplinary research and emerging areas of technology; 2) provide expanded research opportunities and knowledge to students that are critical to the economic health of the state and nation; 3) increase the number of master’s level engineers engaged in both engineering practice and research.

Goal of the Graduate Program

The goal of the graduate program of study is to provide a balance between formal classroom instruction and research, and is tailored to the individual student's academic and professional goals. Graduates of the program enjoy excellent employment opportunities and are highly recruited worldwide in industry, government, and academia.
