SOUTHERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY CARBONDALE.  Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC) Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering invites applications for a full-time tenure or tenure-track faculty position in Environmental, Water Resources or Geotechnical Engineering; applications will be accepted at all ranks.  The ranks of Professor or Associate Professor require significant academic or industrial experience, an outstanding record of ongoing research documented by archive publications, significant research funding, and teaching experience commensurate with rank.  Applicants for the rank of Assistant Professor must have a demonstrated potential for high quality research and teaching with research documented by publications.  Department provides support and excellent opportunities for the development of new faculty. 

Candidates are sought with research expertise in novel applications within civil engineering, including but not limited to:

• Chemical and biological processes in environmental and water resources systems
• Interfacing related emerging technologies with applications
• Risk assessment
• Computational modeling and analysis of surface and ground water quantity and quality
• Security and treatment of water supply systems
• Real-time and adaptive infrastructure management
• Response simulation using intelligent agents
• Application of a systems approach to optimization of large scale environmental, water resources, and geotechnical problems
• Innovative materials development
• Infrastructure health monitoring, design, and rehabilitation
• Progressive failure/collapse
• Dynamic soil-structure interaction under blast, seismic, or impact loading

Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering and doctorate by the time of hire in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or a closely related field in Engineering. Professional experience is highly desirable. Professional licensure is desirable and will be required for tenure.
