Engineering Success Week

St. Louis Sec. Meeting

Chapter Banquet

Engineering Week is held annually at the end of February. High school students from around the area come to SIU to explore the various departments in the College of Engineering. ASCE hosts the 'Bridge Over No Man's Gorge' Competition in which the visiting high schoolers are given plastic straws and tape in order to design and build the strongest bridge. A load is placed on each bridge to test its strength and determine the winner.

Engineering Success Week is an opportunity for incoming students to Southern Illinois to meet their peers and participate in team-building exercises a week before the fall semester. ASCE gives students a taste of the organization through a demonstration of the steel bridge competition and an opportunity to assemble the bridge themselves.

Once a year the St. Louis section of ASCE holds a banquet honoring the achievements of the students' academic success and contributions to the organization. At the 2006 banquet Andrew Bennett, a member of our section, was honored with the Life Members Award.

Each year, our chapter of ASCE holds a banquet in the beginning of April to recognize its sponsors and hand out awards to members. The captains of the Bridge and Canoe Teams are recognized with plaques, along with the ASCE officers. Also, one award is handed out for ASCE Member of the Year.
