Wastewater Treatment

The purpose of wastewater treatment is to reduce the level of contamination in the water so that it can be safely returned to the environment. Since one city's wastewater is often another downstream city's water supply, pathogenic or other harmful materials must be removed. Also, the water must be cleaned to a level such that it does not cause harm to aquatic organisms present in the receiving water. And, it must be safe for humans that may swim, ski, or otherwise use or come in contact with the water during recreational activities.
